Chapter II
The peristyle
Twenty-four columns round a courtyard with a rain pool. Here people walked, read and waited for the shade.
Chapter III
The triclinium
A dining hall with an apse and a mosaic floor. Windows faced the garden, not the sea — for talking, not looking.
Chapter IV
The baths
Three rooms: cold, warm and hot. The floor was heated by air from a furnace and the vault held the steam.
Chapter V
The garden
A pergola, cypresses and shade. What grows in the ruins today was once planted on purpose.
